Flat-weave rugs, sometimes called hand loomed or hand woven rugs, have a casual, worldly ambience. The yarns of flat-weave are braided or woven directly on a loom rather than knotted. The fibers are threaded back and forth across the warp to create a flat weave similar to a blanket or tapestry. This creates a tight-long wearing weave with a flat, low profile.
These rugs typically offer less design and color changes due to their more simple patterns. We recommend using a proper rug pad as they can wrinkle and slip without it. They are more relaxed in presence, offering a cozy farmhouse appeal.
Wool is dirt and stain resistant and will look wonderful long-term simply by vacuuming regularly without the use of the beater bar. Use only cold water when cleaning wool to avoid shrinkage. If spills occur, blot immediately with a dry cotton cloth, blot again with mild soap and cold water, and again to dry. Avoid excessive heat or agitation. Do not use oxygen cleaners on your wool rug. Avoid direct sunlight to prevent fading. For best results periodic professional cleaning is recommended.
